Company History
Phil Neufeld, a central Albertan, was born in Wetaskawin and raised in Lacombe. Phil had his first introduction to the Building Industry during summer breaks from High School. His first jobs were in framing and finishing homes for a member of his church. He received a great amount of satisfaction seeing the finished product, resulting from his effort, and the effort of others. He was hooked. Every summer throughout the high school years were spent learning his craft. He continued working in construction after high school and eventually became superintendent at ATCO Housing.
The recession of the 1980s was a difficult time the construction industry. With the city of Red Deer only issuing about 100 building permits a year, it was certainly no time to start a construction business, however, Phil and Sue had a dream and an aspiration to start their own company, and True-Line Contracting Ltd. was incorporated on May 3, 1990. Like their business, their family was just getting started and they decided to build a type of home that would meet their own family’s growing needs. Phil reasoned that they needed a bigger home and if it did not sell, they would move into it - but it did sell, and so did the next one, and the next one, and every house they built over the next three years. Finally, when their family had outgrown their home, it was their turn. The next house would be theirs. They found an acreage east of town and settled into a more rural way of life. They wanted the same sense of permanence and stability for their family, as they had growing up.
During the early years of the business, Phil and Sue worked together to insure a steady growth. Their number one priority was doing a good job. They wanted to achieve a balance between quality and volume. Given a choice, they would choose quality - they would rather be the best than the biggest.
